Police are looking for the man who robbed the store at gunpoint

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WBRC) – Birmingham police are asking for assistance in identifying a man accused of robbing the Family Dollar located on Bessemer Road in October.

Ken Atkinson of Crime Stoppers of Metro Alabama says luckily no one was injured during the incident, despite the suspect being armed with a rifle. However, he expressed concern that future incidents could escalate.

The robbery occurred on the evening of October 30, 2024, in the 1300 block of Bessemer Road. Atkinson said they received several tips, which were forwarded to detectives with the Birmingham Police Department.

However, this case remains open and they need the public’s help to solve it. He emphasized the seriousness of a situation where someone would openly walk into a store carrying a rifle.

“It’s bad enough that a store is robbed, but if you’re a customer there, you could be robbed or hurt. This is clearly a dangerous person who is willing to enter a place of business with a long gun. It is not discreet, which should certainly raise the public’s concern. The police require your assistance in identifying him so that charges can be brought against him,” said Atkinson.

As always, tips to Crime Stoppers can be submitted anonymously, and if your information leads to an arrest, you may be eligible for a cash reward.
