Witnesses speak out after shooting at Twin Peaks in Huntsville

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (Waffle) – Witnesses are speaking out after a shooting inside a Huntsville restaurant.

One man was killed and three others were injured in a shooting Saturday night at Twin Peaks in Huntsville’s Mid-City.

One man told 48 News he was very scared and shocked, he never thought something like this would ever happen in the community he always felt was very safe.

Pete Doyle manages a hotel in Huntsville’s Mid-City. He says he and a friend went to hang out at the bar and watch the Alabama football game Saturday night.

That’s when he heard the first shot, he said at first he thought it was just something falling and breaking

“It was probably shot number three and when I heard that the only thing I could think about was to dive,” Doyle said.

Doyle says at first he wasn’t sure what was going on.

“Screaming, screaming, broken glass, people throwing things off the table, I personally knocked over three chairs that collapsed,” Doyle said. “There was a lot of chaos crying and screaming and this and that.”

Huntsville police have arrested Jeremiah Matkins, who is accused of opening fire on a group of people.

He is being held without bail after being charged with murder.

State investigators say an off-duty officer was working as a security guard when shots rang out. He fired the gun but didn’t shoot anyone.

Because of this, the case is now in the hands of the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency.

Doyle said he was still in shock after the shooting.

“I think it’s pretty safe. I was surprised it went down like that, you know it’s probably over a football game,” Doyle said. “But you never know what’s going to happen anywhere it could happen anywhere but no, I’m never worried about that.”

Three other people were also injured and are still being evaluated at this time. The Alabama Law Enforcement Agency is still investigating.

Twin Peaks is open for business.
