The attempted robbery prompted the double shooting in the bowling alley parking lot

Following a thorough investigation into the December 7, 2024 Delta Bowl parking lot shooting, Antioch Police Department detectives believe the incident was an attempted robbery involving the suspect, Deantray Reed, a 35-year-old Oakley man, and the victim, Antonio Drake, a 34-year-old man from Antioch, exchanged gunfire, fatally wounding both men.

Based on video surveillance and additional evidence processed in the days after the shooting, it does not appear that the suspect and the victim knew each other. Both firearms involved in the incident have been recovered and are undergoing ballistic imaging. For now, no suspect has been identified and the incident appears to be isolated.

Overview of the original incident

That previously reportedat 10:36 p.m. on the date of the incident, Antioch police officers responded to reports of a shooting in the Delta Bowl parking lot located at 3300 Delta Fair Boulevard. Upon arrival, officers discovered two adult males suffering from gunshot wounds. Drake succumbed to his injuries at the scene, while Reed was transported to a nearby hospital, where he also died. Investigators determined that the suspect approached the victim while he was sitting in the driver’s seat of his vehicle, preparing to drive off. A confrontation ensued, leading to an exchange of gunfire that fatally wounded both individuals. The motive for the attempted robbery remains under investigation.

The Antioch Police Department’s Bureau of Investigation, which includes crime scene investigators and Violent Crimes Unit detectives, continues to work the case. Any updates will be provided by the Bureau of Investigation as information becomes available.
