Will RBI freeze your bank account? Here’s what you need to know – Money News

You have received a voice message, purportedly from the Reserve Bank of India (RBI), claiming that your account bank account will be blocked because your card credit has been involved in fraudulent activities?

“Careful! This is a scam,” says the Press Information Bureau (PIB), the nodal agency for media outreach on behalf of the Government Indiain its falsehood RBI Call alert.

“RBI never contacts the public through unsolicited phone calls/emails to intimidate them about blocking their bank account,” informs PIB in its social media post.

According to PIB Fact Check data, the bogus voice message states that your card of credit was involved in fraud. “All bank accounts in your name will be blocked for the next two hours. For more information, press nine. Namaste, yes, Bharti Reserve Bank…”

“Don’t indulge in such calls!” PIB warns the public.

Thousands of people reacted to this post. For example a person named Jaspreet Singh @Johnny Dullat!!! @johnnydullat, wrote: “I got the call twice saying my card was found in anti national activities, then it gives me the option to talk so to find out more I chose to talk so I pressed 9 and a lady speaks from the other end. claiming I misused the card, either pay or have my account confiscated. I don’t use credit card but still this fake call was worrying. He threatened me to pay or they will confiscate my account and money withdrawn.”

One Naresh m @nareshmuniraju wrote, “Why is the government (not) acting against them? Simply creating awareness is not enough. Government action is needed to deal with cyber crime. Why is the government not acting against them?”
