Madras High Court asks Tamil Nadu government and police to file report in Anna University case – Tamil Nadu News

The Madras High Court has taken cognizance of the Anna University sexual assault case, asking the Tamil Nadu government and police to submit a detailed report.

The move came after a letter by lawyer R Varalakshmi highlighted shortcomings in the police investigation, including the disclosure of the survivor’s identity through an FIR that was said to have been leaked. Another lawyer, Krishnamurthy, highlighted the distress the survivor’s family is facing following the release of the FIR. He also expressed concern about the safety of women in dormitories in educational institutions, urging the court to address this systemic issue.

A division bench comprising Justices SM Subramaniam and V Lakshmi Narayanan listed several parties as respondents, including the State Chief Secretary, Director General of Police, Chennai City Police Commissioner, Anna University Vice-Chancellor and Registrar and Kotturpuram Inspector. All women police station.
