A man with a history of violence is facing kidnapping charges after forcing a woman into his truck

A man with a history of violence has been arrested after he allegedly strangled a woman several times, threatened her with a knife and forced her into his truck.

Dennis Goodwin, 25, was arrested on suspicion of kidnapping, a second-degree felony; aggravated kidnapping, first degree felony; and aggravated assault causing unconsciousness, a second-degree felony, the affidavit states.

On Thursday, the Weber County Sheriff’s Office received a call about an assault. The caller told deputies they saw Goodwin force a woman into a truck and trap her inside.

The caller said at one point, Goodwin pushed the woman out of the truck, picked her up and forced her back while yelling “no” repeatedly.

Goodwin then drove off, the caller told deputies.

When deputies arrived at the scene, they saw the woman returning with visible injuries to her neck, the statement said.

The woman allegedly brought deputies to Goodwin’s apartment complex and showed them a large kitchen knife on the counter.

The woman claimed Goodwin threatened to use the knife on her to keep her from leaving.

She was transported to an area hospital and examined by medical-forensic nurses. While at the hospital, the woman said Goodwin choked her several times, the affidavit states.

Nurses later told deputies the woman had extensive bruising and swelling on her arms and neck, consistent with her statement.

Deputies searched Goodwin’s residence and found his truck parked nearby, unoccupied.

Deputies later saw the truck on the road and conducted a traffic stop. Goodwin’s mother was driving, the affidavit said.

She told deputies she could “Google” her son “and see he has a bad history,” including a guilty plea, the affidavit said. He threatened to “hunt her down, kill her and cover himself in her blood.”

She contacted Goodwin and got him to return to the scene, the affidavit states.

When he arrived, Goodwin told officers the woman fell out of his truck and he helped her in.

He then said that as he drove away, the woman jumped out “due to her mental health,” the affidavit said.

Dennis was arrested and booked into the Weber County Jail.

After examining the woman, she told deputies Goodwin choked her multiple times.

“(She) stated that multiple incidents caused her to fall unconscious, with one of the incidents causing her to urinate on her own,” the affidavit states. “On the second day he was assaulted, (Goodwin) strangled her using both hands and her throat was already sore from the strangulation the day before.”

The woman feared for her life, the statement said.
